Abortion's Evil, Part 1
The Wake-up Herald
And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof. Romans 13:11-14

Carnage Continues

January 22 marks the thirty-eighth anniversary of America’s greatest evil, Roe v. Wade, the 7-2 Supreme Court ruling that removed restrictions on states where abortion was legal (California and New York) and legalized it in all fifty states. Justices William Rehnquist and Byron White wrote dissenting opinions, arguing that the Court had over extended its reach and exercised what Justice White called “raw judicial power.”
The Court’s decision was based on the “right to privacy” which it claimed was guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution, implied by the Fourth Amendment and the Bill of Rights. Roe v. Wade was the principal decision and it repealed all state laws prohibiting abortion.
The companion case, Doe v. Bolton, extended the right to abortion to the entire nine months of pregnancy. No restrictions were placed on the first trimester (until this ruling this was not a medical term). In the second trimester states could pass certain regulations concerning abortions but only to insure the woman’s safety. No restrictions on a woman’s right to choose an abortion were allowed. And in the third trimester the Court conceded that a state could place certain restrictions on abortion to protect the child, but the woman could still have access to an abortion for health reasons; the World Health Organization defines this as any condition that might impact a woman’s physical, emotional, psychological, or financial well being.
Obviously this serves as no constraint at all and the Court in effect opened the door for abortion in all nine months of a pregnancy. Interestingly a full range of legal scholars, including the liberal Alan Dershowitz, have criticized Roe and Doe, saying that advances in medical technology make the personhood of the fetus obvious, that the unborn child’s right to life ought to trump a woman’s right to privacy.
Elective abortion is responsible for 1.3 million deaths per year, over fifty million since 1973.
And while all abortions are heinous and the greatest scourge of untold evil ever foisted upon our nation, the partial birth abortion is the most reprehensible of all. The cervix is dilated with Laminaria and forceps are used to enter the womb and grasp the baby by the legs. The baby is delivered breech while the head remains in the birth canal. A blunt-tipped pair of surgical scissors is used to puncture the base of the skull and a suction catheter extracts the baby’s brain, collapsing the skull, making the full removal of the baby easier. Maybe you don’t want to read such macabre details but we need to face the music. Any nation that would do this to her most innocent, defenseless people can be no better than Nazi Germany. Philadelphia Abortion Doctor Charged With 8 Counts of Murder
PHILADELPHIA (CBS, Jan 19, 2011) – A West Philadelphia abortion doctor, his wife and eight other suspects are now under arrest following a grand jury investigation.
Dr. Kermit Gosnell, 69, faces eight counts of murder in the deaths of a woman following a botched abortion at his office, along with the deaths of seven other babies who, prosecutors allege, were born alive following illegal late-term abortions and then were killed by severing their spinal cords with a pair of scissors.
The abortion clinic was described as a filthy, foul-smelling "house of horrors" that was overlooked by regulators. Gosnell is suspected of killing hundreds of living babies over the course of his 30-year practice. However, he is not charged because the records do not exist. "These killings became so routine that no one could put an exact number on them," the grand jury report said. "They were considered 'standard procedure."'
Gosnell is facing charges of murder in the third degree for the death of 41-year-old Karnamaya Mongar. Mrs. Mongar died on November 20, 2009, when she was overdosed with anesthetics prescribed by Gosnell. Dr. Kermit Gosnell was also charged with murder in the death of a woman who suffered an overdose of painkillers while awaiting an abortion.
“I am aware that abortion is a hot-button topic,” said District Attorney Seth Williams. “But as district attorney, my job is to carry out the law. A doctor who knowingly and systematically mistreats female patients, to the point that one of them dies in his so-called care, commits murder under the law. A doctor who cuts into the necks severing the spinal cords of living, breathing babies, who would survive with proper medical attention, is committing murder under the law.”
Prosecutors said Gosnell made millions of dollars over three decades performing thousands of dangerous abortions, many of them illegal late-term procedures. DA Williams said Gosnell made approximately $1.8 million in one year alone performing the procedures.
A search of Gosnell’s office, called the Women’s Medical Society, revealed that bags and bottles holding aborted fetuses were scattered throughout the building. Jars containing the severed feet of babies lined a shelf.
Investigators also said Gosnell allowed unlicensed employees, including a 15-year-old high school student, to perform operations and administer anesthesia.
The grand jury investigation revealed that, for over two decades, government health and licensing officials had received repeated reports about Gosnell’s dangerous practices. However, no action was ever taken, even after the agencies learned that Mrs. Mongar had died during routine abortions under Gosnell’s care.

According to Troy Newman of Operation Rescue, the grand jury had a stern rebuke for various regulators whose inspectors "looked the other way" regarding Gosnell's activities.
"These people who saw the abuses yet stood idly by, or worse, encouraged the behavior that has now shocked the nation bear some responsibility for what happened in Philadelphia. In fact, they deserve criminal prosecution just as much as Gosnell and his cohorts because their silence not only enabled the crimes, but gave tacit consent to them," the OR report said.
"Operation Rescue calls for massive reforms in the way abortionists and abortion clinics are handled by regulatory agencies nationwide. Kermit Gosnell's shop of horrors is certainly not the only abortion mill of this kind in operation in America," the statement said.
"Operation Rescue calls for immediate emergency inspections of every abortion clinic in the nation. We have often said that if this were to ever happen, no abortion clinic would remain in operation because we have yet to discover one that adheres to all the laws that apply to them. There is no doubt that proper enforcement of the laws already in place would save the lives of women like Mrs. Mongar and babies such as the ones whose tragic images we have posted on our web site," said Newman.
"As the 38th memorial of Roe v. Wade approaches, it is time for Americans to consider the horrors of abortion and demand that government abolish this barbaric practice forever," Newman said.
Why isn’t the abortion carnage dealt with by America’s pastors in the church house?
