The Wake-up Herald
And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof. Romans 13:11-14

Bible or Bayonet
I don’t know if you ever took the time to think about it or not, but there is a purpose to laws. For the most part, laws are put into place to control behavior.
It was the same plan that God had, only He believed that the best of all laws were the ones that controlled the heart. Inward restraints are more effectual than outward restraints. That’s why I love this quote from founding father Robert Winthrop:
All societies of men must be governed in some way or other. The less they have of stringent State Government, the more they must have of individual self-government. The less they rely on public law or physical force, the more they must rely on private moral restraint. Men, in a word, must necessarily be controlled either by a power within them, or a power without them; either by the word of God, or by the strong arm of man; either by the Bible or by the bayonet.
When we removed the moral law (Christianity) from the education of our children, and with it the basis of all internal moral restraints, Americans were forced to be constrained by the outward moral restraint and the rules and regulations of the government.
The Bible has given way to the bayonet.
Somewhere along the way Americans became convinced that morality and legality are the same thing. Our culture no longer understands that what is legal is not always moral. Killing an unborn baby is legal…but it will never be moral. Government taxation may be legal, but it will never be moral.
Sadly, we no longer understand the difference.
I have tried to make the point for years that whatever you legalize you will get more of. Since Republican hero Ronald Reagan legalized the idea of no-fault divorce, divorce has sky-rocketed.
Adultery used to be a crime. Today it is celebrated in the movies and on the boob-tube. I could run down a litany of immoral behaviors that have been legalized. The result is always the same…whatever is legal you get more of.
So here is the point. We tried to warn you. It is a slippery slope. Outside restraints will always fail. Consider the following.
There was no income tax in America prior to 1862.It was originally sold to us as a “war tax” to pay for the Civil War. It was soon followed by various types of “sin” taxes, until the 16th Amendment “legalized” income taxes. Today states and cities also have income taxes. Whatever you legalize you get more of.
Divorce used to be rare. In 1950, only 5% of marriages ended in divorce. Today divorce has reached epidemic proportions where over 50% of all marriages fail, including ‘Christian’ marriages. The church doesn’t even speak against it any more. It is part of the American way of life. Whatever you legalize you get more of.
Until The Great Depression there was no such thing as government welfare. The churches were the ones who took care of the poor. The New Deal legalized the right to irresponsibility. The Great Society of 1964 legalized mooching and coveting. Today, America is swamped with generational welfare-dependant poverty. You can be unemployed in America and still draw nearly two years of a government check. Whatever you legalize you get more of.
Sin has become legalized even within the church. Since homosexuality and divorce are “legal” and so common in America the “church” has decided that speaking against the behavior is worse that engaging in the behavior. Because the church has accepted the legalization of things the Bible teaches are immoral it has lost all moral authority in governmental legislation. Whatever you legalize you get more of.
Because the “church” bought into the idea of no-fault divorce the very institution of marriage is on life support. Many churches are now performing “same-sex” weddings because the government said it is legal. Christians can no longer differentiate between legal and moral. Male-on-male-sodomy is now on par with the God-ordained pure marriage bed. The courts legalized sodomy in 2001 and the “church” has accepted it as normal.
It is a slippery slope.
But that is the argument that many of us have made all along. They called us names. They laughed at us when we warned them that legalizing certain behaviors would only lead to the demand for “acceptance” of more debaucherous behaviors.
We warned that the legalization of sodomy would lead to same-sex marriage. We warned that the legalization of same-sex marriage would lead to the demand for the legalization of polygamy. We warned that if the moral code was something that the courts decided then the natural progression of the heart of man is towards the legalization of pedophilia and bestiality. Without internal restraints there could be no external restraints. Whatever you legalize you get more of.
Today we are seeing gender-free restrooms. On the horizon are gender-free identifiers. The gender-blender is encouraging millions of school children into experimentation with all forms of poly-amorous relationships. Men are not men and women are not women. Everyone is “doing what is right in his own eyes.” Some behaviors cannot be spoken of because they are illegal. Give the courts time and all Christian-restraints will be removed. If history is any guide we can only imagine who will end up sleeping with what. Whatever you legalize…
Apparently lying has been legalized. Is there a more dishonest organization in the world than the American government? Our politicians lie to us with impunity. Unelected bureaucrats break the law and cover their tracks with deception as they “lay heavy burdens” on the citizenry in the name of “fairness.” They ignore the law and ignore the Constitution.
But why shouldn’t they? They are merely following the lead of the church which no longer adheres to their “law book” but rewrite it in the face of government amendments to the law of God. When the standard of all morality was cast in the trash it was only a matter of time when the standard of all government soon followed into the paper shredder.
Biblical law was the inner restraints that we used to write on the hearts of the people. When we removed the teaching of those laws to our children in our government schools the church abdicated its throne and with it the inner restraints on the hearts of the children. Government is now the arbiter of all things moral. Homosexuality is now moral. Speaking against it is not.
In 1980 the SCOTUS ruled the 10 Commandments must come off of the school house wall. The reason for the removal is very telling.
“If the posted copies of the Ten Commandments are to have any effect at all, it will be to induce the schoolchildren to read, meditate upon, perhaps to venerate and obey, the Commandments. However desirable this might be as a matter of private devotion, it is not a permissible state objective under the Establishment Clause.”
Even the decision was built on a lie. The establishment clause is connected to the free exercise clause. A “clause” is not a law.
But don’t fear those quazy quistians. Rejecting God’s moral law will not lead to the expansion of immoral behaviors in America. People are good. Courts will determine what is best. Men know better than God.
Look in the rearview mirror pal. Our government is out of control because our people are out of control. Our people are out of control because our pulpits have adopted the latest SCOTUS decisions as the basis of all morality.
Gay marriage is coming to a church near you. Oh, your pastor may say that he will never marry a homosexual couple, but wait till the ‘gubmint’ tells him the rules have changed. He will fall in line like the little government marionette he is, rather than risk his miserable job.
We’ll soon be marrying men and horses in our churches. Go ahead and laugh. That is where a darkened nation with a darkened heart will end up.
Laws have consequences. Whatever you legalize you get more of.
