Lies, Liars and Truth
The Wake-up Herald
And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof. Romans 13:11-14

Lies, Liars and Truth
By Robert McCurry
It is noteworthy that politicians never use the word ‘lie’ or ‘lying’ or ‘liar’ when referring to an opponents claim; it’s always expressed as, ‘that’s not true’ or ‘that’s false’ or ‘he’s not telling the truth’. Media, however, does not hesitate to translate these phrases into ‘lie’, ‘lying’, and ‘liar’ in their reports. So if each candidate is a ‘liar’, based on the allegations of the candidates themselves, it boils down to which ‘liar’ we choose to believe and accept.
lie n. = 1. A false statement deliberately presented as being true; a falsehood. 2. Something meant to deceive or give a wrong impression. v. lied, lying, lies. v.intr. 1. To present false information with the intention of deceiving. 2. To convey a false image or impression.
lying n. = perjury, deceit, fabrication, guile, misrepresentation, duplicity, fibbing, double-dealing, prevarication, falsity. Dissimulation, untruthfulness. adj. deceitful, false, deceiving, dishonest, two-faced.
liar n. = One that tells lies; a person who has lied or who lies repeatedly.
God’s Word
“These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness [that] speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren” (Prov 6:16-19).
“Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight” (Prov 12:22).
“If a ruler hearken to lies, all his servants are wicked” (Prov 29:12).
“Hear the word of the LORD …: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land. By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood” (Hosea 4:1, 2).
A Vanished past
Many Americans can remember growing up in a time when people assumed that if the government said something, it was true. That era is gone, and faith in government belongs to the nostalgia for a vanished American past.
I can't think of any election where the public said 'enough is enough,' where they were really turned off by negative campaigning. Many voters have become so cynical that they really don't expect candidates to speak the verifiable truth, and they accept these exaggerations, these falsifications, as just part of the game.
We understand that Washington is a corrupt system, and because of that we are willing to have corrupt individuals as part of the agenda because they are likely to fit better with the system and get more things done for us.
The Politics of Lying, Government Deception, Secrecy, and Power, by David Wise, Random House, 1973
Jesus Christ, THE TRUTH and Satan, the liar
Jesus said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6) and ‘Satan is a liar and the father of all lies’ (John 8:44); John tells us, “The Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works [and lies] of the devil” (I John 3:7, 8).
The battle between truth and lies has been raging since Satan convinced Eve, who later convinced Adam, that God’s clear warning was untrue when he said, ‘You will die the day you transgress what I have commanded’. But God meant what He said; they believed Satan’s lie, transgressed, and died an instant spiritual death; Adam’s posterity continues today under the curse of sin, the transgression of God’s law; under the dominion of Satan, and under total inability to save himself.
What is true of the individual is true of the nation. The root cause of America’s multiple, out-of-control, humanly unsolvable problems is sin. God’s command to all is, ‘Repent and believe the Gospel.’ Only Jesus Christ can save us; only the Gospel is the power of God unto salvation.
In America’s early days Christianity was the dominate religion; God’s Word – the Bible – was the dominate guide for personal, family, social, and political life. Sadly this is no longer true.
God’s solemn warning
“Then it shall be, if you by any means forget the LORD your God, and follow other gods, and serve them and worship them, I testify against you this day that you shall surely perish. As the nations which the LORD destroys before you, so you shall perish, because you would not be obedient to the voice of the LORD your God” (Deut 8:19-20).
"They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them” (Prov 28:4).
