God, the Devil, and Legal Tender

The Wake-up Herald

And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof. Romans 13:11-14

The Curse of Canaan

Scripture Reading: Genesis 4:8-12

Cain was the first person born of Eve and the Bible says that he was cursed of GOD.  Eve, at first, had twin boys, Cain and Abel; two sons but each had different fathers.

We just read of God’s punishment to Cain of his murder of his brother.  He was cursed; can’t farm so he has to be a fugitive and a vagabond.  So, the first two children born to Eve—one was cursed and the other was dead.  It wasn’t a very good start.

The Bible gives the partial genealogy of Cain in chapter 4:17-24 of the book of Genesis.  The son of Cain was Enoch; Enoch’s son was Irad; Irad’s son was Mehujael; Mehujael’s son was Methusael; and Methusael’s son was Lamech.  Lamech had two wives.  With his wife Adah his sons were Jabal and Jubal; with his other wife Zullah his son was Tubal-cain and his sister was Naamah.  Jabal lived in tents and had cattle.  Jubal was a musician:  a player of the harp and organ.  Tubal-cain was an instructor of every artificer in brass and iron; a metal smith.

None of Cain’s children were farmers; they had to invent other jobs for themselves.  They were dependent on others for their food.

Captain of My Soul

by Thomas A. Dooley

Now my Savior asks of me
to- fish with Him not- in the sea.
"Forgive me Lord, for doubting Thee,
Now I know just what you want of me.

Send me forth to cast Thy net,
by Thy fervent wish more- souls to catch"
He rules the land and sky and sea,
and I heard Him say "Come follow me."

*Refrain
Jesus, keep me- in Your hand
Lead me back to the Promised Land.
Be the Captain- of my soul,
always faithful in control.

The Sin of Greed

Scripture Reading: Proverbs 6:16-19

Proverbs 6:16-19 “These six things doth the LORD hate; yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

  1. A proud look
  2. A lying tongue
  3. And hands that shed innocent blood
  4. An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations
  5. Feet that are swift in running to mischief
  6. A false witness that speaketh lies
  7. And he that soweth discord among brethren.”

I think the book of Proverbs is a book that a new believer in our truth should read as early or as soon as he/she can.  It gives him/her insight on how he/she should live his life.  Do you think that our GOD still hates these seven actions?  Who sheds innocent blood?  The doctor in an aborticide office?  The baby in the womb is certainly innocent!

Who soweth discord among the brethren?   It is not discord among the stranger, but discord among the brethren!  But what sin covers most if not all of these abominations – that is what I will talk about this morning.
